Director, Referral Marketing

Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi (AKUH, N) is a private not-for-profit institution that provides tertiary- and secondary-level healthcare services. Established in 1958 and currently a 300 bed facility, the Hospital was upgraded to a tertiary level teaching hospital in order to respond to the health care needs of the people of East Africa.

Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi invites applications for the position of Director, Referral Marketing




Responsibilities
​Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the incumbent will create and implement marketing plans for the Hospital and the Outreach Centres. S/he will plan and execute programs and events that build relationships between the doctors and patients and position our products and services favorably in the healthcare market. S/he will also identify hospitals and physicians who can help increase marketing value for AKUH, N.

This position entails developing a Patient Referrals Strategy, designing a robust and efficient medical referral system for AKUH, N and creating a referral base of patients both locally and abroad. Key responsibilities will be to:

  • Solidify referral program within the Network (i.e. AKUH,N; Outreach, Aga Khan Health Services Hospitals)
  • Collaborate with Marketing to develop relationships with local clinics and physicians (e.g. hold frequent Continuing Medical Education programs, etc.), identify types of medical packages required, and improve marketing initiatives specific for medical referrals
  • Collaborate with Finance to develop comprehensive pricing estimates and packages for a wide range of patients including creating focus groups where necessary to test packages/service bundles
  • Collaborate with IT/Medical Records Departments to develop referral tracking system and database
  • Identify potential areas for telemedicine links within the AKDN network
  • Establish core referral teams to carry the referrals agenda forward leveraging on internal resources and recruiting new resources where there are substantial gaps
  • Develop relationships with hospitals and referral boards in East Africa and potentially other African countries and explore other areas which would greatly enhance referrals program i.e. call centre, website, etc
  • Explore the concept of medical tourism as an alternative available to East Africans who need travel abroad for treatment
  • Make a strategic plan for each country to achieve the objectives being set and create a BRAND
  • Liaise and develop relations with appropriate organizations e.g. peer groups, government bodies/ministries, embassies, diplomats and media agencies to improve the reputation of Hospital resulting in increased revenues

Requirements
​Applicans should:
  • possess a Master’s degree in Business Administration /Marketing or equivalent
  • have at least 10 years’ experience in a senior position preferably in a healthcare organization
  • have a creative and technical background able to explore new options and deploy marketing automation programs
  • have superior communication and writing skills
  • have strong organizational skills, being able to manage multiple projects at once
  • have a successful track record in creating and executing marketing plans that drive volumes
