Senior House Officer

Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi (AKUH, N) is a private not-for-profit institution that provides tertiary- and secondary-level healthcare services. Established in 1958 and currently a 300 bed facility, the Hospital was upgraded to a tertiary level teaching hospital in order to respond to the health care needs of the people of East Africa.

Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi invites applications for the position of Senior House Officer


 
Responsibilities
The incumbent will:
  • access and manage patients
  • attend to emergency cases
  • liaise with consultants and various departments
  • ensure availability of support services in the process of treating patients; particularly when referred by other specialists to AKUH, N Hospital
  • participate in the review and development of appropriate policies and procedures for patients’ health care to formulate best practice guidelines
  • participate in the meticulous use of resources to enable patient safety and quality care
  • periodically initiate and participate in clinical research activities, institutional quality improvement and patient safety activities
  • perform other duties as may be assigned by department supervisor/manager
Requirements
Applicants should:
  • possess a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBCh.B)
  • be registration by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board
  • hold a Certificate in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • hold a Certificate in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
  • have at least 1 year post internship experience
  • have good communication skills and be a good team player
  • have demonstrated respect for diversity and be culturally sensitive and apply ethical principles appropriately
  • have good Microsoft Office Application computer skills
