Background:

 

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system’s designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP's Division of Communications and Public Information (DCPI) communicates UNEP's core messages to all stakeholders and partners, raising environmental awareness, influencing attitudes, behavior and decisions related to the local and global environment, and enhancing the profile of UNEP worldwide. This post is located in UNEP/DCPI at the Nairobi duty station. Under the general guidance of the Director of DCPI and under the direct supervision of the Head, Internet Unit, the Spanish website developer will carry out the following tasks:

 

Responsibilities

 

Under the direct supervision of the Head, Internet Unit, the Website Consultant will carry out the following tasks:

 

1.         About UNEP website:

           As a lead up to the migration of all www.unep.org websites, consolidate the ‘About UNEP’ website, including all databases under this website, into one Dot Net Nuke portal

           Maintain the ‘About UNEP’ website over this period, providing support for content updates and management.

 

2.         Climate Change website:

           Regular updates and maintenance of the Climate Change and related websites

           Create, maintain and update websites as a lead up to COP 19

 

3.         UNEP.org website migrations:

           Provide support for the migration of all www.unep.org websites into a new hosting environment

           Support in planning and preparation to ensure a smooth migration of data

           Manage content and reformat where necessary to comply with the new technical environment

           Assist in page-by-page migrations of static websites into CMS websites where applicable

 

4.         Built Environment Unit websites

           Coordinate with the Built Environment Unit (BEU) focal point, to update their websites:

 

           Act as the focal point for all web related inquiries, technical support, maintenance and management related to the above websites

 

 

5.         Other:

           Support in general to the UNEP corporate website -  www.unep.org

           Support and training to other content managers as required

           Support any upcoming initiatives as required

           Provide website technical support and maintenance of existing websites in preparation for the migration with Office For Operations (OFO)

           Maintain content in UNEP Content Management System (CMS)

           Adhere to production schedules and deadlines

           Perform regular and / or periodic updates of assigned websites

           Any other tasks as directed by the unit Head

 

Output expectations

 

           Support the development of content for modern, interactive and easily navigable and updatable websites,

           Ensure websites are in line with the UNEP Web Guidelines and policy

           Undertake maintenance and updates of websites, including About UNEP and Climate Change

           The consultant will support and maintain existing websites, migrate static websites to CMS’s in order to facilitate migration to new CMS under OFO, support the overall www.unep.org migration with OFO and provide overall support as required.

           Maintain the UNEP Division of Trade, Industry and Economics specific ( websites through weekly updates, and develop specific pages.

Ability to draft/edit a variety of reports on UN policy issues and strategies relevant to own work as required.


 


Education:     

 

Advanced University degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Computer Information Systems or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

 

Experience:


 

A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in content management systems, and practical experience in the migration of web applications and usage of content management systems.

 

 

 

 

Language: 

 

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in written and oral English and Spanish is required.  Working knowledge of other UN official languages is desirable.

 

Other Skills

Excellent computer skills (Microsoft office, Internet, email) are required.
