The African Population and Health Research Center, Inc. (APHRC) is an African-led and African-based international research institute engaged in interdisciplinary, evidence-based policy research. Our researchers address important issues and challenges facing Africa in areas such as education, health, population, urbanization and wellbeing. We engage with policy makers in the region to disseminate our research findings and influence change affecting the quality of life in Africa. We also support doctoral level training in Africa to strengthen research capacity in the region. The Center has over 40 research staff trained in the fields including anthropology, demography, health economics, education, sociology, public health, medicine and statistics.
Post-doctoral Fellows, RCS and PDRH
Role:
  • Contribute to proposal development, literature review, and scientific writing
  • Participate in the design of scientific research and training tasks within the division
  • Assist in the implementation of projects
  • Participate in the dissemination of program findings to appropriate audiences and with preparing project progress reports to donors
  • Data management and analysis.

Qualifications and experience
  • PhD in demography or related field
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Good scientific writing skills
Additional requirements for the RCS Post-doctoral position
  • Strong interest and 2 years’ experience in research capacity building activities
  • Experience working in an academic institution, will be an added advantage
Additional requirements for the PDRH post-doctoral position
  • strong interest in the area of family planning
  • Good skills in data management and analysis.
The above positions come with an attractive, internationally-competitive remuneration package including medical, travel and life insurance cover. Allowances toward in-relocation and dependents' education are also provided. For all positions, preference will be given to nationals of sub-Saharan African countries. Females and French-speaking candidates are especially encouraged to apply.
Post-doctoral fellowships are taken up within two years of completion of doctoral degree.
