Organizational Context:
Jesuit Refugee Service is an international Catholic organization, with a mission to accompany, serve and defend the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people. JRS has a priority to work wherever the needs of displaced people are urgent and unattended by others, and offers a human service to refugees and the communities through a wide range of rehabilitation and relief activities, many of which center around formal and informal education needs. 

Description
This is a position based in Kakuma Refugee Camp.  The holder will be actively involved in planning, monitoring, implementation and evaluation of the Safe Haven Programme and takes responsibility of all child safeguarding issues at the JRS safe spaces/facilities in Kakuma camp, Kenya.

Key Responsibilities
-          In close collaboration with Safe Haven Coordinator, be actively involved in planning, monitoring, implementation and evaluation of the Safe Haven Programme and in particular, safeguarding  of children in JRS safe spaces
-          Ensuring that admission and/or discharge of clients at the safe spaces follow the standard operating procedures in place.
-          Carry out and implement various activities in regard to child safeguarding, protection and participation
-          Organize and monitor child therapy sessions in the safe spaces
-          Work in conjunction with the safe haven coordinator to develop and implement training and life skills programmes among children and other clients in the safe facilities in Kakuma.
-          Carry out weekly and monthly monitoring and evaluation of the programme, produce monthly statistics and reports and submit them to the safe haven coordinator.
-          Continue building in-depth knowledge of needs of survivors, especially children and survivors of gender crimes , and of methodologies to address these needs with a multi-disciplinary approach
-          Upon consultation with safe haven coordinator, recruit, train and monitor incentive staff to assist in the implementation of program services.
-          Recruit and actively engage in training participants in child safeguarding and protection, SGBV and any other training offered within the department.
-          Communicates and cooperates with the relevant internal and external actors
-          Represent JRS in interagency meetings and relevant public functions when requested.
-          In collaboration with safe haven coordinator, develop/update training manuals
-          Contribute to project proposals, reports, needs assessments, newsletter articles and other project documents as needed.
-          Ensure services are offered in a professional and ethical manner. Creates and supports already existing child friendly spaces
-          Ensure that proper client’s records are updated regularly and exercise discretion, tact and accuracy in handling confidential information.
-          Help in preparing monthly meetings with the partners
-          Help in ensuring that children in safe spaces access education and other basic needs
-          Be actively involved in advocacy on behalf of children and other clients residing at the safe houses.
-          Works to provide appropriate support services for child survivors of abuse through training and strengthening of referral mechanisms
-          Uses participatory methodology within the community to create awareness messages and peer education groups to promote behaviour change towards issues of child protection
-          Uses monitoring and evaluation tools to ensure that services and programming for children and children who are survivors of abuse are appropriate, timely and that the guiding principles of case management are adhered to
-          They will have some knowledge of child protection response and will already know or have worked with key child protection actors.  
-          They will have a passion for using communication to end child abuse and will have worked directly with children before.  
-          They will not only believe in the rights of children, but also have an interest in promoting these rights general.
-          S/he will be a proven team player and will be supported by an experienced child protection team.  
-          Use his/her knowledge and background as a social worker to train and mentor others working with children
-          Participate in any other programme activity as agreed with the safe haven coordinator and/or the Project Director.


Qualifications:
-          University degree in social work, art/play therapy community development and at least two years practical working experience preferably in project management.
-          Experience in child protection is a MUST while ECD experience/training will be an added advantage.
-          Experience in managing people/teams.
-          Experience in working in the field of child safeguarding/protection and SGBV.
-          Ability to build effective partnership and collaborate with other team members.
-          Ability to work sensitively with refugee population of different ethnic background and/or demonstrated experience and commitment to working with marginalized communities.
-          Excellent communication skills in English (written and oral) and Good knowledge of MS word/Office.
-          Flexibility, resilience to stress and ability to adapt to working in remote area with adverse climatic and environmental conditions.
-          Strong analytical, strategic thinking and planning skills and monitoring and evaluation skills/experience.
-          Patience, perseverance, proactive, self-motivated and ability to work in stressful environment
