Accountant II

Overall Responsibilities
The Accountant will work closely with the Finance Manager to safeguard assets (financial and physical) of MSH and ultimately the U.S. Government or other donors against fraud, loss or misuse. S/He will be responsible for ensuring that any money expended in the field is done in accordance with the generally accepted accounting principles, MSH policy, and any cost principles imposed by the donor agency. S/He will need to be aware of, and adheres to, MSH's integrity standards in all activities.

Specific Responsibilities
  1. Provide operational financial support and guidance to projects / Chief of Parties as required
  2. Produce periodic financial reports and interpret the same to management
  3. Ensure proper books of accounting are maintained and kept up to date within MSH policy guidelines and that internal controls are reviewed and maintained according to MSH guidelines
  4. Monitor and ensure that project and overhead spending are in line with agreed budget
  5. Review of bank reconciliation and field advance accounts each month
  6. Work with the Finance Manager to ensure vendors, contractors and consultants for goods and services are paid promptly
  7. Ensure local statutory compliance in regards to labour law, income tax, company registration etc.
  8. Liaise with Internal and External auditors and respond to queries, observations and recommendations
  9. Preparation of payment vouchers, controlling and entering all expenses from petty cash
  10. Coding of expenses on the general ledger and entering into Quick Books and maintaining accounting files

Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce (Accounting/Finance Option) or related field and at least CPA Part II or its equivalent. S/He must have at least three (3) years' work experience in a large and busy NGO. In addition, the candidates must have sound ICT knowledge especially in the MS Office Suite. Experience in the Quick Books will be an added advantage. In addition, S/He must possess a high level of confidentiality, honesty, integrity and the ability to work under minimal supervision with tight deadline. Excellent communication skills and team playing ability are also essential to this position.
