The Position
This position exists to plan and supervise the maintenance works and small construction projects implemented by either ILRI staffs or outside contractors.

Key responsibilities
  • Pre-implementation documentation and tendering for regular and ad hoc maintenance contracts and for small construction projects to be implemented by outside contractors.
  • Provision of advice to the manager of the Supply Management Chain concerning selection of outside contractors for maintenance works and small construction projects.
  • Supervision of work carried out by regular and ad hoc outside building and maintenance contractors
  • Management of payment requests, completion certificates etc. for work carried out by outside contractors.
  • Planning and supervision of maintenance and small construction projects implemented by ILRI staff
  • Preparation of regular progress reports on maintenance program and small construction projects implemented by outside contractors and by ILRI staff.
Requirements:-
  • Degree in civil engineering, project management or equivalent and eligibility or membership of the Institute of Engineers of Kenya.
  • At least five years’ experience in the management of major maintenance works and small construction projects
  • Possess  AutoCAD and good computer skills and professional software
  • The ability to plan and implement his or her own work plan without close supervision
  • Commitment to delivery of high quality work by ILRI staff and contractors
  • Ability to prioritize work to match the reasonable expectations of clients with the capacity of the Engineering Department
  • Supervision of programmed and ad hoc maintenance works and small capital projects by contractors and ILRI staff
  • Ability to supervise multiple and / or complex maintenance issues, projects, performance management, people management, effective communication, change management
  • Ability to work under high pressure, meet deadlines, monitor and follow-up on pending matters under minimum supervision;
  • Ability to communicate fluently in writing and verbally in English, in order to communicate with clients, staff and contractors to achieve desired outcomes
Terms of Appointment
This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position based at ILRI’s Nairobi campus.  The position is on a 2 year contract with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and continued funding.
Job level and salary
This position is job Grade 2D with a starting gross salary of KES 132,917 per month. This is exclusive of other benefits provided by ILRI.
