The International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) is a nonprofit scientific and charitable organization founded in 1996 whose mission is to ensure the development of safe, effective, accessible, preventive HIV vaccines for use throughout the world. IAVI's work focuses on four areas: accelerating scientific progress; mobilizing public support through issue advocacy and education; encouraging industrial involvement in AIDS vaccine development; and working to assure global access to a vaccine. Responsibilities: |
Title: Program Manager, East Africa
Reports to: Sr. Director, Program Operations
Scope of Work Lead the design and implementation of Research Preparedness (RP) programs related to Clinical Site Support and Stakeholder Outreach in East Africa. In collaboration with the Director Research Preparedness, Policy and Advocacy, spear-head the design, implementation, evaluation, documentation and analysis of RP program activities mentioned above and detailed in the yearly work plan. Will maintain direct relationships with clinical research partners with regard to research preparedness programs implemented at research centers. Will provide technical assistance as needed for similar IAVI programs in Southern Africa.
Essential Job Functions:
Programmatic
1) Clinical Site Support
2) Stakeholder Outreach: strengthen support for vaccine research, through increasing awareness, understanding, and participation in the vaccine development process.
3) Training: Work with IAVI departments to develop and implement training and technical assistance for various audiences
4) Social Science Research: Design and manage locally relevant social and behavioral science projects that inform AIDS Vaccine research in Eastern and Southern Africa

1) Represent IAVI at meetings, workshops and conferences as needed.
2) Documentation and publication of work
3) Maintain supportive relationships with existing partners. Develop capacity of local partners and encourage new partnerships to develop.
4) Represent IAVI in Kenya, and in other countries in the region, in interactions with non-governmental organizations, partners and other stakeholders.
5) Liaise with other ongoing HIV prevention, care and treatment to ensure IAVI’s activities are operating within a broader context.
6) Prepare periodic reports (monthly, quarterly or semi-annual, as appropriate) of activities.
7) Other tasks as assigned.
