Fundraising Coordinator

Position: Outreach and Fundraising Coordinator at The Cancer Awareness Centre of Kenya
Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Job description
The Cancer Awareness Centre of Kenya (CACK) is a Kenyan based charitable organisation focusing on the eradication of Cancer through Awareness Programs and early Cancer detection programs.
Finding and keeping profitable donors is crucial for growth; ultimately CACK’s fundraising success will depend on the quantity and quality of supporters that the post holder delivers.

Responsibilities of the position of Fundraising Coordinator

 Under the direct supervision of the Directors of organization the main responsibilities and tasks of the holder of this position will be to:
1. Head and supervise the outreach and fundraising secretariat that has been established within CACK with a view to creating a dynamic and vibrant fundraising network capable of bringing increased funding for the organization
2. Raise capital funds for equipping the organisation and expanding the Centre in line with this growth.
3. Building relationships with sponsors and donors by regular communication, marketing and publicity such as newsletters and special events
4. Drafting, creating and maintaining marketing materials, editing newsletters, writing mailing letters, and generating content for our website and the wider web, in conjunction with a volunteer journalist.
5. Expanding and maintaining the contact database
6. Communicating with the Project Director to collect news stories and progress reports for sponsors.
7. Coordinate communication between the office and sponsors.
8. Researching new potential private and commercial donors.
9. Helping to prepare grant applications to agreed trusts and organisations
10. Organising fund raising events and campaigns.
11. Arranging talks to groups, clubs and association.
12. Initiating and coordinating relations with the media.
13. Identifying processes and methods to streamline the fundraising and awareness in relation to publicising and marketing of fundraising.
14. Encouraging and coordinating the fund raising activities of foreign countries based volunteers.
15. Assisting new Fundraisers in their induction into the charity.
16. secure regular donors and sponsors for each new child to enable more children to be provide with a home at the Organisation
17. Coordinate all fundraising efforts of CACK and ensure that the organization’s funds dramatically increase in order to ensure sustenance of CACK programmes.
18. Dramatically increase CACK’s income, by rapidly growing the number and value of CACK donors.
19. Build profitable and mutually rewarding relationships with donors and potential donors. That will include a broad range of donors from a few multi million dollar corporate donors to tens of thousands of middle class supporters.
20. Create and manage a network of local and international fundraising volunteers.
21. Advise the CACK Board and staff on all matters pertaining to fundraising.
22. Conduct research on all funding sources that are relevant for the work of CACK and develop a strategy to approach all such funding sources.
23. Ensure the activities are conducted in compliance with relevant standards and guidelines developed and amended from time to time by the CACK Board.
24. Perform other relevant duties, as required by the Director and the CACK Board.

Required Competencies and skills
a) Solid and indepth knowledge of, and exposure to, a range of issues related to fundraising, especially for charitable trusts.
b) Excellent analytical and communication (spoken, written and presentational) skills, including the ability to persuade donors to support CACK programmes, produce a variety of written reports in a clear, concise style, to deliver presentations to external audiences, and to build and maintain effective partnerships capable of increasing CACK’s funding base.
c) Ability to establish priorities and to plan work assignments, juggle competing demands and supervisory tasks, and work under pressure of frequent and tight deadlines.
d) Proven interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multicultural, multiethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
e) Experience in managing a team is an advantage.

Qualifications required
i) University degree or equivalent. A long period of experience with direct fundraising work may be accepted in lieu of the university degree.
ii) Work Experience: A minimum of 2 years of relevant progressively responsible professional experience in charitable trusts or NGOs or any organization or company, in a fundraising role.
iii) Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English. An additional international language would be an asset.

- Duration of contract: One year (with possibility of extension based on performance)
