Somali Aid’s programmes involve the support of various sectors deemed by the organization as crucial to the socio-economic development and sustainability of the target communities; and include Agriculture, Education, healthcare, Nutrition, Fisheries, and (WASH) water sanitation and hygiene. The organization seeks services of qualified, competent and committed individuals who can serve in the following capacities:

POSITION SUMMARY
The WASH Engineer will be responsible for supervising all WASH infrastructure related works of the project to ensure that the construction work allocated follows common and agreed standards and report any deviances of acceptable quality to the supervisor and/or management. The position holder will work closely with the existing structures of Somali Aid’s partner organizations and other stakeholders in implementing the project activities including building the capacity of the community (local users) to efficiently operate and maintain the facilities for improved sanitation and hygiene.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 
 A suitable qualification or substantial experience in WASH Engineering or related subject
 Extensive practical experience managing water supply, sanitation and hygiene promotion, especially in emergency relief programmes

 Demonstrated experience in design of water and sanitation facilities and construction management/supervision
 Proven ability to effectively supervise and manage on site contractors and contractor's staff
 Strong problem solving skills and experience of proactively identifying and addressing issues
 An ability to represent Somali Aid to a broad range of people including the local population, other organizations, government officials and donor community. Good leadership skills with a supportive, consultative management style.
 Proven expertise and experience on project proposal development and report writing.
 Excellent team worker with experience of establishing strong working relationships with colleagues from different functions and cultures Good training/capacity building skills.
 Strong organizational skills with experience managing and prioritizing a high workload and multiple tasks in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines
 Strong communication skills, with excellent written and spoken English; proficiency in written and spoken Somali will be an added advantage.
 Confident and proficient in the use of MS Office and engineering software like AutoCAD
 An ability to live and work in a stressful and/or remote environment.
 Experience of managing budgets and of logistics.
 Good knowledge of Somalia, especially South Central Somalia.
 Good understanding and ability to schedule works and implement schedules with practical construction skills.
 An understanding of and commitment to Somali Aid’s mission and values.
 Experience in working in rural areas, including infrastructure and construction.
 Knowledge, skills and experience in participatory methods for hygiene promotion e.g. PHAST, CHAST.
