School matrons work in boarding schools and look after the health and wellbeing of pupils and the running of the domestic side of school life. If you’re interested in caring for children living away from home, in a school setting, this job could be ideal for you.

School matrons work in boarding schools and look after the health and wellbeing of pupils and the running of the domestic side of school life. If you’re interested in caring for children living away from home, in a school setting, this job could be ideal for you.
Work activities
As a school matron, you will typically:
• help pupils settle into school life
• keep pupils healthy and safe in line with school policies
• help with supervision and behaviour, especially at meal times and bedtimes
• keep parents informed about their children's health and wellbeing
• make sure clothes are kept clean and repaired and replaced when necessary
• look after pupils with minor illnesses alongside the school nurse
• take pupils to medical and dental appointments and call for emergency treatment if necessary
• organise and attend social activities for pupils such as birth day parties
• keep all records up to date and help to write reports
• attend staff meetings and arrange meetings for pupils
• sort laundry, and monitor cleaning and domestic staff.
Requirements
- Appropriate diploma/degree
- 3 or more years of relevant experience in a private primary school
