Assistant Transport and Logistics Manager


Job purpose: Responsible for overseeing transport operations with the aim of providing
adequate and timely delivery of quality milling cane to the factory

Minimum Requirements
Academic Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree, with an emphasis on courses in business, communications, administration, finance and logistics.
Diploma in Transport/procurement may be an added advantage

Desirable skills
Should be organized, motivated, analytical and capable problem solvers.
They should possess strong communication skills, since they often deal with everyone from management to merchandise salespeople.
They also need to work well independently or as members of a team, and own sound negotiating skills.

Tasks:
• Coordinate cane transport operations to ensure delivery of cane to the factory within 36hrs after cutting/harvesting
• Participate in preparing and ensuring adherence to cane transport programmes by various groups.
• Ensure strict observance of cane harvesting practices and transport regulations an specifications
• Ensure efficient allocation of transport resources for milling cane and labour
• Ensure delivery of mature, clean and fresh milling cane to the factory
• Liaise with field workshop staff to ensure optimal availability of bell carriers and other machines i.e. winch/bell loaders.
• Participates in preparation of the budget and operational cost for the unit transport operations
• Attend to issues related to drivers, operators, and supervisors/superintendant.
• Prepare periodic progress and annual repots showing organizational achievements against planned targets as well as providing justifications for performance variances and areas of improvement
• Ensure continuous availability of adequate milling cane during factory operations
• Provide technical leadership to multidisciplinary teams to enable them develop, implement and evaluate strategic management plans and budgets aimed at improving performance standards and organizational effectiveness.
• Develop and implement strategies for creating a high performing organizational culture and results to ensure that programme activities are undertaken on sound management principles and practices.
• Coordinate with workshop for timely repair of breakdown
• Coordinate with recovery for timely repair of breakdown in field
• Coordinate with dispatch and fuel fleet for efficient operations.
