Background
A Social Worker will support
individuals, families, groups within the Turkana community, maintain
professional relationship and act as a guide, advocate and critical friend.
This position is open to qualified Turkana candidates with good knowledge of
the local area. Female candidates in particular are encouraged to apply.
Under direct supervision of a
Project Coordinator, the incumbent duties and responsibilities will be the
following:-
§ Mobilization, formation and training of committees on
leadership, water and environmental hygiene, fundraising within and outside
community.
§ Accompanying and linking visitors to the communities
the project is working with
§ Liaising, networking, and making referral with other
programs e.g. Diocesan departments, Children Office, Chief’s Office, and
Donors/Partners.
§ Training women and collecting their views during
baseline and end line surveys and project evaluations
§ Offering information, guiding and counseling services
to home and their families.
§ Recommending and sometimes making decisions about the
best course of action for a particular service user
§ Making monthly reports and handing over to the Project
Coordinator.
§ Performs
any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Desired Qualifications
§ Diploma in social work/social sciences
§ Guidance and counseling is an asset
§ Two years experience working with communities in the
field
§ Basic computer knowledge, honest and a team player
§ Reliable and ready to put the interest of the project
first
§ A
recommendation letter from the parish priest
