Program description:  This program is a collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention whose remit is to conduct research in malaria, HIV and other diseases. It is in this mandate that the program has a vacancy in the HIVR Branch for a medical officer:

POSITION: Medical Officer MR 10 (2 Positions)
REPORTS TO: HIVR BRANCH CHIEF
LOCATION: KISUMU.

Essential Requirements:  Degree in Clinical Medicine & Surgery (MD or MBChB or equivalent) Minimum of 1 year clinical experience in 0ut-patien/inpatient settings. Registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board. Proficiency in written and verbal English, fluency in Kiswahili Able to be based in Kisumu with up to 75% of the time in the field. Excellent writing skills Proven ability to work well with the public and in a team Must be flexible to work within the existing structure

Desirable Qualifications:Experience in research, including clinical trials is an advantage Ability to lead and work within a team environment and in diverse cultural environment. Computer literacy in Microsoft office suite, proficiency in Excel, Access or other database application and internet research. Excellent interpersonal skills, initiative and resourcefulness. Work in a professional and ethical manner with competence, accountability and integrity.

Job Description: Provides overall medical supervision of the clinical activities, including supervision of clinical officers and nurses providing care and treatment to study participants.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: One year non-renewable Contract as per KEMRI scheme of service. Probation period for the first 3 months. Salary negotiable within the appropriate grade depending on education, experience and demonstrated competency.
