Functional Controller


Reporting To: Finance Manager
Our client a leading skin care products multinational company is urgently looking for a qualified functional controller to be based in Kenya.
Role Purpose
Tensure transparency and efficiency of planning, budgeting/forecasting and management reporting processes;
To support management in the monitoring and control of sales, marketing and supply chain processes through routine management information;
To act as a sparring partner for management, supporting the implementation of business strategy through non-routine analysis and evaluations in support of decision making.

Main Accountabilities:

  • Ø Business Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting
          I.        Coordinating  the development of annual business plans for Sales, Marketing and Supply Chain, ensuring alignment between planning processes;
         II.        Coordinating  the development of bottom-up business forecasts, highlighting the business’s financial outlook against business objectives;
        III.        Analysis deviations from targets and challenging forecast proposals;
       IV.        Steering monthly Sales & Operation Planning meetings with Demand planning, Sales & Marketing Teams-to ensure gaps are identified and action plans agreed on.
  • Ø Management Reporting
          I.        Preparation of monthly/quarterly Sales/Margin/Marketing Spend and cost reports for local and regional management, including commentaries;
         II.        Preparation & Reporting of detailed Quarterly management information (income statement, balance sheet, sales/margin/marketing spend by product category) to the corporate centre in Germany via a central information system, ensuring that accurate and complete information is submitted within the timelines set by the corporate centre;
        III.        Raising awareness of critical business topics in sales, marketing and supply chain processes;
       IV.        Performing routing internal control activities, monitoring the effectiveness and efficiency of existing internal control procedures and initiating improvement activities.

  • Ø Sales, Profitability & Working Capital Controlling
      I.        Routine monitoring, analysis and evaluation of actual sales, profit and working capital performance against plan and forecast;
    II.        Highlighting of significant deviations from plan and/or forecast to line management;
   III.        Supporting management in the development and implementation of corrective action;
  IV.        Supporting marketing and sales in defining consumer and customer pricing customer (retails sales and list price targets) and monitoring implementation of approved pricing ;
   V.        Evaluation of annual customer trading terms and conditions including trade allowance, supporting the sales team in developing plans to improve efficiency of terms during annual negotiations and supervising the implementation of approved terms and conditions
  • Decision Support
      I.        Supporting line management in analyzing and evaluating business risks and opportunities using  unstructured numerical data;
    II.        Providing tools/templates to standardize calculation methods and decision making in marketing sales processes (e.g. product development evaluation, promotion evaluation; pricing analysis etc).
 Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • BCom , CPA(K)
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a corporate environment within a mid to large FMCG company in sales/marketing focused financial management role;
  • Significant experience in customer/product level reporting, forecasting and variance analysis an advantage;
  • Operational knowledge of management accounting and investment appraisal techniques (e.g. Break-even Analysis, Variance Analysis, Cost-Benefit Analysis, NPV Analysis etc)
  • SAP experience ideal, min requirement of having worked on a well known ERP system (Oracle, Hyperion, JD Edwards, BPCS etc);
  • Proactive, with strong communication and analytical skills;
  • Intermediate to Advanced Ms Excel skills;
  • FMCG background with an international perspective an advantage
