Programme Accountant
Location: Nairobi, with travel within Kenya

Established in 1973, Trócaire is the official overseas development agency of the Catholic Church in Ireland and operates as an international NGO with national offices in over 20 countries worldwide. We work with some of the world’s poorest people, supporting communities and delivering long-term change to people’s lives working on issues around livelihoods, human rights, gender equality, HIV, policy research & advocacy, climate change and emergency relief. The Nairobi office was established in 1994 and the country programme has grown significantly since that time. Trócaire implements all its programs through a range of partners, including faith-based organisations
The Role Purpose
The Programme Accountant (PA) has responsibility for providing support to Trocaire’s implementing partners’ governance and financial management capacity development. This includes capacity assessments, developing and capacity building plans, on-job trainings, workshop facilitation and systems development.
The position will also facilitate grant management processes within Trocaire Kenya, including contributing to partner selection processes, risk assessments, systems audits, pre-award/compliance trainings, fund disbursements, review of partner financial reports, undertaken scheduled financial audits as well as grant close-outs.
You will also be expected to provide technical support and advice to Programme Officers within the country office, including financial analysis and interpretation, donor reporting, and general financial management support
The Person Specification
Bachelors degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting or Business Administration and a professional accountancy qualification (CPA or ACCA), A qualification in organizational development will be a strong added advantage
We are looking for a person with strong internal audit skills primarily practised within Civil Society Organizations(CSOs) good experience in the financial capacity building and development of such partner institutions, have excellent facilitation skills as well as demonstrate solid grant management competencies.
You should also have some working knowledge of the project management cycle; proven maturity with ability to communicate effectively with impact, interact and command respect at all levels, including interacting comfortably with the highest hierarchy within an entity
