Financial Controller

BURN is currently seeking a mission driven candidate to serve as our permanent, full-time Controller in Nairobi, Kenya. Responsibilities of the position include:

DUTIES
  • The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting functions of the Kenya branch including: Managing Information Systems and accounting personnel in a manufacturing environment.
  • Maintains and ensures  the integrity of the organization’s entire financial system, the security of organizational assets and generating internal and external reports
  • Interfaces with local regulators, auditors and advisors, providing management with financial data, reports and analysis, and assisting management in decision making.
  • Maintains bookkeeping and accounting records, including general ledger and cash accounts, bill paying, monthly account reconciliation, inventories for raw materials, work in process and finished goods, accounts for variances for cost of goods sold on a monthly basis.
  • Helps with reconciliation of control accounts and intercompany accounts for the Kenya Branch and home office using two currencies.
  • Maintains a document retention system for Accounting and Legal documents.
  • Assists with special projects.
  • Prepares fortnightly and monthly payroll.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • B.A./B.S. or higher in accounting; CPA-CMA-MBA a plus but not required.
  • At least four years’ experience in cost accounting in a manufacturing environment, finance, accounting, and/or other relevant work experience
  • High energy, motivated, positive, and passionate about learning and growing with us.
  • Experience working with an international company.
  • Knowledge of and experience in external reporting to local and national government bodies, including but not limited to preparing the annual audit, taxes, etc.
  • Experience using accounting software to prepare internal and external reports (included but not limited to income statements, balance sheets, cash flow reports).
  • Compliance minded and focused.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel ,Word and QuickBooks.
  • Trustworthy, motivated, and flexible.
  • Strong English language proficiency, knowledge of Kiswahili a plus.
  • Management experience preferred.
