SACCO Branch Manager

 REF: BM/SIRSA/02.15

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the branch manager is responsible for coordinating day to day operations and business growth at the branch together with the following other duties;
  1. Establish and oversee the implementation of sound financial management systems in liaison with the finance department
  2. Manage branch performance against agreed targets and budgets,
  3. Seek and continuously develop knowledge and information about competitor activity, pricing and tactics, and communicate this to relevant departments in the Sacco
  4. Maintain and develop existing and new customers through appropriate propositions and promotion methods, and relevant internal liaison, to optimise quality of service, business growth, and customer satisfaction.
  5. Manage the branch loan portfolio in accordance with the Sacco credit policy and procedures.
  6. Management and growth of the branch savings and deposits in accordance with relevant policies, procedures as well as the overall Sacco strategic objectives
  7. Ensure that all Sacco policies, rules, procedures and other relevant laws and regulations are adhered to and all staffs are conversant with themin line with Sacco objectives
  8. In liaison with finance department, ensure adequate branch liquidity and that there is enough cash at all times
  9. Ensure adequate security for cash in Sacco premises, in transit and at any paying points.
  10. Controls the utilization of, and ensuring proper maintenance and custody of all society assets at the branch
  11. Establish and maintain appropriate systems to ensure that member’s queries and complaints are noted and addressed satisfactorily and in time.
  12. Establish and maintain appropriate reporting systems to ensure the board and management are well appraised on branch performance and that accurate reports are prepared and submitted in time
  13. Ensuring proper running and security of ICT resources at the branch in accordance with the ICT policy
  14. Communicate, liaise, and negotiate internally and externally using appropriate methods to facilitate the development of profitable business and sustainable relationships with stakeholders
  15. Manage and motivate staff, train and develop staff, according to company policies and employment laws, and ensure relevant HR procedures are followed (appraisals, discipline, grievance, etc.
  16. Manage branch health and safety, security and emergency systems, and ensure staff and members awareness of the same, according to Sacco policies and relevant laws
  17. Develop personal skills and capability through on-going training, as provided by the Sacco or elsewhere or by self-subject to Sacco approval.
  18. Any other duties as may be allocated by superiors from time to time

Skills, Competencies and Experience

  1. University degree in Business Administration, Business Management, Commerce, Finance, Accounting or Economics.
  2. Attained CPA Part 2 or its equivalent e.g ACCA
  3. Diploma in co-operative management, business management, microfinance, marketing, entrepreneurship or any other relevant field will be an added advantage.
  4. Have at least five years’ experience in a deposit taking SACCO with two years of these being in a senior management position or a banking environment.
  5. Computer proficiency.
  6. Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  7. Knowledge of Sacco and Co-operative regulations
  8. Knowledge of credit management
  9. Be decisive and possess quick judgment skills
  10. Possess leadership and supervisory skills
  11. Possess analytical and critical thinking skills in use of spread sheets and word processors
  12. Management reporting skills
  13. Be a team player with public relations skills
  14. Have ability to work long hours and with minimal supervision
  15. Be proactive and possess initiative
  16. Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  17. Be able to motivate and mentor a team
