The Position
The incumbent will provide technical support to the Scientists in organizing, planting, and managing trials in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania; and engaging seed companies on seed sales related issues.
Key Responsibilities
Organize, plant, and manage herbicide formulation trials in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
Organize, plant, and manage seed increase activities in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
Organize, plant, and manage multi-location variety evaluation trials of herbicide resistant maize in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
Carry out data entry and management from variety evaluation and cropping system trials.
Assist Scientists with sampling seed for quality control of herbicide resistant maize lines.
Support seed companies in seed production, packaging, shipment, and regulatory requirements.
Administrative
Provide technical support to CIMMYT Scientists.
Supervise field staff.
Network with partners/ stakeholders and train them in herbicide resistant maize seed production
Any other duties and miscellaneous tasks as required and as assigned from time to time.
Networking and Workshops
Organize, attend and participate in training workshops and project meetings.
Assist in drafting seminar, workshop and conference proceedings.
Essential Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Seed Science, Horticulture, or Agronomy
Minimum of 1 (one) years' experience in a related field.
Practical experience in agricultural related field work.
Experience and knowledge in working with farm inputs especially seed sales.
Ability to prioritize and organize work efficiently and independently.
Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure with minimal supervision.
Good interpersonal skills, integrity, honesty and self-motivation.
Ability to work well within a team.
Demonstrated driving competency.
