The Nation Media Group is the largest independent media house in East and Central Africa with operations in print, broadcast and digital media. It attracts and serves unparalleled audiences in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda. We are seeking to recruit an experienced and self-motivated individual to the position of Commercial Manager – print advertising.
Reporting to the Group Advertising Director, the position will entail optimizing profitability by achieving print advertising commercial revenue objectives.  We invite applications from qualified professionals with proven track records in a complex and highly competitive multi-media commercial environment.
Overall responsibility will be to formulate and coordinate advertising plans and implement them to ensure achievements of the revenue objectives for the Group, by providing advertising solutions to our customers across the different print products.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the following key result areas:
  • Planning and coordinating advertising sales strategies, while keeping in mind the brand profiles and products, to meet the Group’s business objectives;
  • Growing revenue market shares across the sectors for all brands and products; 
  • Negotiating annual advertising contracts with representatives of major advertising clients and companies;
  • Building relationships and  facilitating client engagements;
  • Identifying manpower requirements and liaison with HR for recruitment;
  • Managing the  performance of team members;
  • Developing innovative ideas for existing and new products in close liaison with team members;
  • Assisting the Business  Managers and Business Executives in resolving clients issues/complaints;
  • Developing and  providing orientation to the team to ensure understanding of brands, products & properties;
  • Ensure talent management and reviews;
  • Determining the contribution of each Business Manager, planning for the delivery of agreed targets and closely monitoring performance;
  • Provision  of regular reports as required by senior management on sales performance, market intelligence and trends;
  • Reviewing debt status of the client’s account to determine credit worthiness and to recommend way forward;
  • Performance of the print  products against competition through research data, with a view to increasing market shares; and
  • Participating in the review of the pricing structure and recommending the appropriate changes.

 
Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field. MBA will be an added advantage;
  • Expert knowledge with 5 years’ management experience in a commercial environment, sales & marketing preferably in an advertising setting;
  • Leadership and analytical skills;
  • Strong customer service orientation and interpersonal skills;
  • Proven record in managing profit targets in a commercially-oriented environment and experience in leading change management initiatives;
  • Good understanding of the dynamics and complexity of media advertising competitiveness;
  • Demonstrable ability to grow a profitable business with drive and commercial acumen in an organization embracing change.
