General Summary:
The Finance Manager is to manage and supervise CMA’s finance department under the direction of the Administrator. The Finance Manager is to supervise and coordinate finance employees and office services to ensure compliance with Christian Mission Aid’s financial policies and procedures and to ensure that activities are performed in an accurate and timely manner.  The Finance Manager is to know, understand and abide by ethical professional standards of confidentiality of all the organization’s accounts and business.

Key responsibilities:
  1. Must understand CMA’s accounting systems, procedures and policies and insure that they are being followed and practiced properly e.g. general ledger entries, accounts receivable and account payable, bank reconciliation statements, payrolls, handling and reconciliation of petty cash, financial reporting etc.

  1. Ensure compliance with Christian Mission Aid’s Finance Manual policies as well as rules and regulations stipulated by the Government of Kenya and donor requirements.

  1. Knowledgeable and able to perform accurately CMA’s computerized accounting programs,  accounting systems and procedures to insure that proper accounting practices and procedures  are in place and being followed for all CMA’s projects and financial activities.


  1. Responsible for the preparation of donor and partner reports as required according to their regulations and in a timely manner.

  1. Working with the Program Managers and Administrator, oversee and assist in the regulation and analysis of project budgets to ensure they are staying in accordance to the approved project budgets, objectives and proposals.
  2. Responsible for timely payments of CMA commitments and expenditures as approved and  ensure all payments are supported with adequate documentation.

  1. To supervise cash flow and cash payments of the petty cash accounts and ensure that proper controls, checks and balances and security are in place showing proper records and documentation for accountability.

  1. Supervise and assist with audit preparations of all CMA projects and CMA operations and follow through with audit recommendations.

  1. To maintain and supervise employee payrolls, consultant fees and contractor fees, ensuring that all salaries and payments are properly documented, payroll deductions and withholding taxes are properly done and appropriate payments are made to the government offices.  To ensure that CMA is up to date and in compliance with government taxes and labor laws.


  1. Supervision and training of new finance personnel to ensure proper procedures are practiced and all finance activities are completed accurately and in a timely matter.

  1. Assist with the up dating of CMA financial policies and procedures to ensure all aspects of the policy abides with the Kenya laws and donors requirements.


Qualification and Experience requirements
  • Bachelor degree in Commerce, Majoring in Accounts or the equivalent
  • Professional Accounting course (ACCA/CPA) Minimum Part 2 – added advantage
·         Minimum 5 years’ experience in working with donor funded projects/NGO.
·         Familiarised with  Kenya & S. Sudan Taxation Laws and labour Laws
  • Experience on Budgeting and Grant Financial Management
  • Experience on Donor relations and report writing.
·         Proficient in working with QuickBooks accounting system.
·         Proficiency with auditing procedures-added advantage.

Essential Requirements
·         Knowledge and experience in managing finance Department, including budgets and reports for donors.
·         Excellent written and spoken communication skills including report writing skills
·         Ability to work with some levels of autonomy
·         Willingness to travel on short visits to project countries, sometimes at short notice
·         Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
·         Outstanding integrity and honest personality.
·         Good organizational and problem-solving skills
