IP NGN TRANSPORT SUPPORT ENGINEER

REF: TECHOLOGY-NTSE-MAR-2013
Reporting to the IP Network Support Manager, the role holder is primarily responsible for maintenance of the Core IP Backbone network (IP/MPLS) and the Enterprise Network (Enterprise Edge and Aggregation) to ensure that SLAs are met for all services, execute work orders as instructed from the planning team and be part of a 24 x 7 team.
The job holder’s key responsibilities will be to:
  • Ensure availability for each and every IP device on the core IP/MPLS  infrastructure network;
  • Ensure system and service availability of the network on 24x7 basis;
  • Ensure consistency of network configurations;
  • Ensuring optimum performance of the network at all times with KPIs met;
  • Handle Projects assigned by the team manager and Work orders raised by the Planning team;
  • Handle escalations on the Transport IP/MPLS infrastructure from the NOC team or other service owners;
  • Participate in knowledge transfer for the NOC team;
  • Maintain several weekly reports on network activities.
The ideal candidate should possess the following skills & competencies:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical/Computer Engineering required;
  • Cisco Certifications on associate level i.e. CCNA and above a must. CCNP/CCIP certification desired;
  • 2+ years of direct Network Engineering/Network Support experience in a busy Service Provider environment;
  • In depth understanding of QoS, Diffserv Traffic shaping and traffic QoS policy implementation;
  • Experience with network management and monitoring tools (e.g. Cisco LMS/ISC, Zabbix);
  • Be able to articulate high level understanding of multi-services platforms, routing protocols ISIS / RIP / RSVP / OSPF / BGP / iBGP / and troubleshooting down to packet level;
  • Knowledge of QoS techniques and hands on experience on implementing MPLS services;
  • Very strong hands-on skills with extensive experience in the troubleshooting and solving complex network related issues;
